Before carefully crafting a professional career that includes copy writing, winning brand strategies and placements in top national and international print, television and Internet publications, Dee (Foster) made a name for herself as a USA and NCAA national and international gymnastics champion. She was the 1985 USA National All-Around champion, a USA Gymnastics national team member from 1984-1988 and she qualified for the 1988 Olympic Trials (could not compete due to injury). She served on the USA Gymnastics Federation’s board as an athlete advisor.
A believer in the power of blazing trails, Dee kept a promise she made at twelve years old to legendary Alabama football head coach, Paul “Bear” Bryant, accepted a full scholarship to the University of Alabama and became the first African-American gymnast to ever compete for the Crimson Tide. She has broken and set several NCAA, Southeastern Conference (SEC) and school records, one of which (17-time first team All-American) remains unbroken since her 1993 retirement. Dee was also the first Alabama gymnast to ever score a “perfect 10.0,” and did so seven times throughout her career (she holds the NCAA and SEC record for the most 10.0’s scored in consecutive meets - five).
During her storied career as a Crimson Tide gymnast, she won the NCAA awards for SEC Female Athlete of the Year, SEC Freshman of the Year, NCAA Gymnast of the Year (Honda Sports Award for Outstanding Achievement in Women’s Collegiate Athletics) and she was nominated alongside world and Olympic champions including Mia Hamm and Sheryl Swoopes for NCAA Female Athlete of the Year.
In The Know
The launch of Dee’s professional career began with the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG), where she worked for three years in the sports venue department. After a stint in New York (her favorite city), she settled in Los Angeles (her favorite climate) and re-launched her PR career – this time broadening her scope with branding and marketing, and adding individuals within the entertainment and music industries to her client list.
As a global branding, marketing and PR executive with billion-dollar grossing company
Dualstar Entertainment Group (The mary-kateandashley Brand) – and as CEO of her own PR Firm (enigma entertainment) – Dee contributed leadership and implemented creative concepts for over 80 product categories throughout a vast span of branding and marketing initiatives including print and online promotions, email campaigns, ad campaigns, banner ads, landing pages, direct mail campaigns and search engine campaign. She interfaced with various internal and external functional areas to evaluate and optimize the effectiveness of brand marketing and publicity strategies, and provide insight regarding the use of multiple mediums to maximize conversions and revenues at key consumer touch points.
